Audio | Wireless Microphones

A common question we ask when discussing microphones with our clients is whether they prefer a wired or wireless unit. This may seem like a broad question at first but it opens the door to determine which microphone will work best for our client’s event and their needs.

Wireless microphones are a great option for almost any style of event. Their rental price may be slightly higher than a wired option, however, their capabilities and versatile accessories lend to the price. In our inventory at AVL, we carry Shure wireless, battery-powered microphones for clients with models such as ULX-D, UHF-R, and Axient. All of our wireless microphone units here have the option to either use a handheld or a belt pack with a lavalier or earset microphone.

HANDHELD MICROPHONES

If the name does not help describe this type of microphone, a handheld microphone is a wireless option where an individual holds the microphone in their hand allowing them to move freely in the space without the worry of being tethered to one spot or podium. This works great with keynote speakers up to lead singers. Wireless handhelds provide the perfect free range of movement while providing excellent sound. The handheld microphone can also easily clip into a microphone stand or podium for a stationary option.

BODY PACK, LAVALIER & EARSET MICROPHONE

Wanting a wireless option but prefer to not hold a microphone? A lavalier or earset microphone would be a great option in this case. A lavalier microphone consists of a belt pack and a small microphone that clips to a shirt, dress, blazer, or almost any article of clothing. The second option is utilizing the earset microphone which instead of the microphone clipping to an item of clothing it cuffs around the ear and lays across the cheek with the microphone positioned just off the mouth. Both of these options work great for a speaker who walks around a lot, speaks with their hands, or wants to be free from being obligated to hold something. These are often used in theatrical performances as well due to the ease of concealing the microphone and their discreetness.
